Emergency Preparedness Week Challenge Rules and Regulations
1. Eligibility Criteria
1.1 Contest Period
The Contest runs from May 5th, 2024 at 12:00am until May 11th, 2024 at 11:59pm EDT.
1.2 How to Enter
No purchase or entry fee is required.
During the Contest Period, entrants must post a tip on Twitter or Facebook showing Public Safety Canada (PS) how they are taking action to be emergency ready, using the hashtags #EPWeek2024 or #ReadyforAnything.
Limit one (1) Contest registration per person.
1.3 Personal Eligibility
Entrants must be: Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada or protected persons designated by the Immigration and Refugee Board or Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Contest coordinators, PS employees, PS contractors, individuals working as casuals within PS, students working within PS, and their immediate families, are not eligible to participate in the Contest.
PS reserves the right to request verification of these eligibility criteria from the Entrant at any time.
2. Prizes & Draw
2.1 Selecting Prizes
Prizes will be awarded as follows: There are fourteen (14) prizes to be won during the Contest Period. One prize will be drawn each day. Each prize is a 4 person deluxe Canadian Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Kit. The kit features multiple essential items such as a flashlight, a multifunction knife, waterproof matches, a personal first aid kit, food and water, and an emergency blanket that will help support you during the first 72 hours of an emergency. All items are carried in a nylon backpack. Entrants are only eligible to win one (1) prize during the Contest Period.
2.2 Awarding Prizes
Prior to claiming the prize, each winner (or the parent/legal guardian in the case of a winner who is under the age of majority in their province or territory of residence) must expressly consent to these Rules and Regulations.
Prizes must be accepted as awarded and are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-redeemable for any cash value. PS reserves the right to make prize substitutions of equivalent monetary value.
PS will pay the costs to deliver the prize to the winner's home address. Each winner will be responsible for all costs or expenses related to set-up.
2.3 Odds
Participants' odds of winning will depend on the total number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period.
2.4 Draw Details
Fourteen (14) random draws will occur daily at 9:00 am EDT during the Contest Period (May 5-11), at PS’ office in Ottawa, from all eligible entries received by 11:59 p.m. EDT the day prior. You do not need to be in attendance to be selected.
PS will respond to the winners’ comment with the following “Congratulations Username, you have been selected as one of the winners of a 4 person deluxe Canadian Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Kit. Please send a direct message to the Emergency Ready in Canada Facebook page [or the Get Prepared Twitter page] to claim your prize.
3. Use of Personal Information
By accepting these Rules and Regulations and submitting a post, Entrants (or the parent/guardian) expressly consent to the collection, use, storage and disclosure of their personal information by PS for the purposes of administering the Contest as well as for the other purposes expressly contemplated in these Rules and Regulations in accordance with the federal Privacy Act. Such purposes include allowing PS to use the Entrants' personal information to communicate with them and to announce and/or post the usernames of the winners on the Emergency Ready in Canada Facebook page and the Get Prepared Twitter page. If you are unsatisfied with the way PS handles your personal information, you have the right to file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
4. Disclaimers and Exclusion of Liability
His Majesty the King in Right of Canada, PS Ministers, employees, servants, agents, contractors, assigns or successors assume no responsibility for Contest Entries that are lost, stolen, tampered with, late, damaged, misdirected, received through impermissible channels, illegible or unintelligible for any reason or for any other circumstance that may limit an individual's ability to participate in the Contest or otherwise affect the administration, security, impartiality or normal course of the Contest, including without limitation any combination of the following:
- inaccessibility of, technical problems with or failure of the PS website, Twitter page, email, any telephone, cable network or transmission system, servers, access providers, computer or other equipment, or software traffic congestion on the Internet
- any virus, computer bug, unauthorized human intervention or any other cause beyond the control of PS, and any human error which may occur in the administration of the Contest or the processing or judging of Entries.
His Majesty the King in Right of Canada assumes no responsibility to any Entrant for any direct or indirect, special, consequential or punitive damages in connection with the Contest or these Rules and Regulations.
5. General
PS reserves the right to exclude from its Facebook or Twitter page any post that does not comply with these Rules and Regulations or for any reason that PS determines in its sole discretion without notice at any time.
PS reserves the right to modify, suspend or cancel the Contest in whole or in part for any reason at its sole discretion.
PS reserves the absolute right, at its sole discretion, to reject any Entrant who submits a post in a manner that is contrary to these Rules and Regulations, disruptive to the proper operation of the Contest, or by its nature is unjust to other Entrants.
6. Québec
The Contest is subject to applicable federal, provincial, and territorial laws. This Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. For residents of Québec, any litigation respecting the conduct and awarding of the prizes in this Contest must be submitted to la Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux du Québec only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
7. Confirmation of the understanding and acceptance of the terms and conditions
All advertising and related Contest social posts will be redirected to the Emergency Preparedness Week page on GetPrepared.ca, where the Contest Rules and Regulations will be posted. Submission of an entry to the contest by an Entrant (or the parent/guardian) will be construed as the Entrant (or the parent/guardian) acknowledging that they understand and accept the Contest Rules and Regulations.
